Brick x Brick is an energetic and driving look-yourself-in-the-mirror kind of anthemic alternative rock song about tearing down and destroying my limiting beliefs, doing a mindset reset by reprogramming the destination of where I want to go in life, and learning to guard my mind against outside noise and distractions.
As a longtime advocate of personal growth and mental wellness, I write songs like this to remind myself not to let the outside world creep in and mess with my head. It doesn’t matter what’s going on around me, what matters is where I want to be going. Distractions will always be there but I must decide on where I want to go and then set my mind on that. Having a good mindset is all about doing a good job of resetting your mind.
It’s the first song musically co-written with my new bandmates, where we dug into our alternative rock roots, leaning on inspiration from heavyweights like Nirvana and Bush, to fellow Canadian rockers Billy Talent and Matthew Good Band.
lyrics
This is my life
Nobody else’s life
And I feel so behind (so behind)
There’s no need to, to rush it through
Release the negative
Focus on the positive
Make sure I’m heading in (heading in)
Heading in the, right direction
I need to avoid impatience (impatience)
To see my progress
There’s no time to talk it over
There’s no time at all
I’ve gotta let it fall, gotta let it fall
Brick by brick destroy it all
This is my mind
Nobody else’s mind
And I’ll protect what’s mine (protect what’s mine)
There’s no need to, to let you through
Have to rebuild the frame
Only myself to blame
Reset my programming (programming)
Pro-gram-ming new, destinations
I need to throw my axis off (axis off)
To, to rediscover balance
I need to tune out all the noise
(all the noise)
To hear the message
There’s no time to talk it over
There’s no time at all
I’ve gotta let it fall, gotta let it fall
Brick by brick destroy it all
There’s no time to talk it over
There’s no time at all
I’ve gotta let it fall, gotta let it fall
Brick by brick destroy it all
(Brick by brick)
(Brick by brick)
(Brick by brick)
There’s no time to talk it over
There’s no time at all
I’ve gotta let it fall, gotta let it fall…
There’s no time to talk it over
There’s no time at all
I’ve gotta let it fall, gotta let it fall…
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah

Kitchener, Ontario-native John Maksym spent his childhood jumping on furniture, singing along to every Springsteen hit. He
would don a red cape and pretend to be on the big stage, entertaining the masses. Fast forward and that kid has become a well-respected recording artist, songwriter, and performer—trading in his red cape for a fresh jacket, and hitting those big stages to entertain the masses....more
